What are the eligibility requirements to apply?

There are just three requirements. We welcome applications from Canadian residents, ages 25 – 34 (as of April 30, 2023), who can commit to the year-long participation requirements of the Fellowship program.

When is the application deadline?

Apply by April 30, 2023 at 12am PST to participate in the 2023 – 2024 NextGEN Fellowship program. You can upload your application materials (and check requirements) over on the Application page.

Are the age requirements flexible?

No. However, if you’re under 25, we invite you to apply in the future. We’ll be waiting!

Are accommodations available for applicants with disabilities?

Yes. We are committed to ensure your full participation in all aspects of the program. If any individuals accepted to the fellowship have accessibility needs, the program director will ensure they are met.

What is the cost of the program for Fellows?

In short, not much. (Did we mention the $1000 stipend?) The costs of program tuition, transportation to NextGEN gatherings, as well as meals and accommodation during those gatherings are covered. Should I apply if I am in graduate school or job searching?

Yes. If you’re a Canadian aged 25 – 34 who can commit to the year’s schedule, you fit the criteria, plain and simple.

What dates should I reserve on the calendar to participate if selected for a Fellowship in 2023?

Please refer to the 2023 – 24 schedule, to ensure you are available for all the scheduled virutal and in-person meetings.

During NextGEN Weekends, will there be any Sunday activities or commitments?

No, there will be no formal programming on a Sunday.

Are Cardus staff eligible to apply?

Cardus employees and board members, along with their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, siblings and their respective spouses) or any person living in the same households of such employees or board members, whether or not related, are not eligible to compete for a Fellowship.

Can clergy apply?

Yes, the program is open to both clergy and laity who are interested in faith, vocation, leadership, and public life and public policy.

What are other benefits and perks besides participation in the program seminars, events, and Zooms do Fellows receive?

You will be included in a growing community of young leaders, invited to special Cardus events, and have opportunities to meet and connect with Cardus team and community working on a wide range of projects. What are the attendance expectations during the Ottawa Seminar week?

The week will be broken into morning and afternoon sessions (9am-12pm and 2 – 5pm) Monday through Friday, with a concluding session Saturday morning. There will be breaks between sessions for lunch and any personal or work-related business.

Upon receiving a Fellowship, what are the attendance requirements and other responsibilities?

The in-person requirements are jetting across Canada (all expenses paid) to spend four weekends and one week seminar with us over the course of the year. How will Covid-19 affect planned program events in 2023 – 24?

All events throughout the year are planned with public health guidelines and protocols in mind, and may be subject to change as we approach them. If Covid restrictions prevent us from meeting, we will not change gathering dates, but pivot to gathering online.
